How To Prepare for Professional Headshots

Everything you need to know.

Prior to Your Session

Drink a lot of water, eat healthy and get plenty of rest. If you feel good you will look good.

Follow a healthy skincare routine. Avoid going tanning or being out in the sun where you might get burnt right before your session.

Decide how you want to do your hair and make-up. Think simple and subtle.

In the winter or in dry climates use lotion the night before if your skin is dry. Lotion also helps with staticky hair in the winter.

Pick out your outfit 2-3 days before your session so you aren’t stressed that day.

Try on your outfit choices and ask a friend what color looks best on you.

Rehearse your smile in front of the mirror and know what facial expressions you like the most. Try smiling with your teeth and without your teeth.

Look at photos you like of yourself and know why you like them. Is it your smile, the angle, the clothes, etc.

Check with your company if there are any requirements so you don’t have to redo it.

Right Before the Session

If you have glasses make sure they are clean.

Listen to your favorite song to relax and get in a good mood.

Make sure your clothes are not wrinkled, dog/cat hair and lint is removed using a lint roller.

Bring a brush or comb to the session along with any extra make-up.

After Your Session

YAH! You did it! You now have an updated headshot that you can post on your website.

Ask your photographer when you can expect your photos.

Update all your social media and marketing with your new image.

I recommend updating your headshot every 2-3 years or prior to that if you have any major changes to your appearance.

You want your headshot to be an accurate representation of you and your brand.
